Applications for Membership of the IDPC are presented to the existing members. New members will only be admitted if they fit the following criteria, and there are no objections to their membership raised by existing members:
- The applicant is a legally constituted organisation or network.
- The applicant has a proven track record of expertise in a policy field relevant to national and international drug policy.
- The applicant has a reputation for constructive engagement with policymakers.
- The applicant has national or international geographical coverage.
- The applicant embraces IDPC's mission.
- The applicant fully supports the Five Policy Principles that have been adopted by the IDPC.
- The applicant does not exist to promote a single fixed solution to drug policy dilemmas.
- The applicant commits itself to playing an active role in the work of the IDPC, offering resources in support of the IDPC workplan.
- The applicant undertakes to respond promptly to all communications regarding the operation of the IDPC.
